1. Get
out of bed early! There are very few distractions at 6:00am.
2. Make a list of three things to work on tomorrow.
3. Stay on course. i.e. follow your list.
4. Record your practicing. Unedited! Listen back to see
if it is productive.
5. Break up you goals into 15 and 30-minute practice sessions.
6. Find a "space", the same space, where you can
practice each day.
7. Practice in all 12 Keys. (I used to do it by week) i.e.
Everything in A Major for one week. Then the next week everything
in Bb major. Then the next week B major. And so forth.
8. Practice reading. It will get you gigs because most players
are too lazy to learn to read well.
9. Check your progress. Ask a teacher to evaluate your progress.
Keep records of the things you have mastered.
10. Maintain good physical posture while practicing.
11. Learn most things by ear.
****
If you are not making acceptable progress in a reasonable
amount of time you must make significant changes in your
actions.
