PRACTICE TECHNIQUE #9

Do some practicing with a friend. I do not mean jam, or prepare a piece of music to play together. Instead, make a short list of specific items that the two of you can practice together. For example:

1. Melodic minor scale, one octave, using the cycle of fourths
2. Reading in Bass Clef, Pp. 24-30
3. "Solar"
    A. Unison melody
    B. Unison bass line
    C. 2-part melody and bass line
    D. Unison guide tones
    E. 2-part bass line and guide tones
4. Slap Bass Workout, song numbers 31-36

The sound of another player with the sound of your playing will bring many aspects to light. Listen for: intonation, articulation, dynamics, and phrasing. Mistakes will be obvious, unless, of course, both of you are making the same mistake.
